Crossroads

Crossroads is a full-size rendering of the maquettes that had led to The Meeting Place. As the piece progressed, I became increasingly interested in the interplay of forms, shapes, light, shadow, and the interaction between the viewer and the figures. In contrast to a great deal of my other work, rather than creating seductive textures and colours, in Crossroads I wanted to eliminate surface decoration and mark making in order to draw attention to the physical forms.

This project was funded in part by an Individual Assistance Grant from the Saskatchewan Arts Board. For more background information, see the Crossroads section of 8 Bodies in 12 Years: Images and Sculptures 1994-2006.
