I completed The Meeting Place in early 2002, after having made a great number of two- and two-and-a-half-dimensional wall reliefs. This piece came about as a tangent to ideas I was exploring in some maquettes I had made for a larger work. At the time I had wanted to take my work off of the wall and into three-dimensional sculptural space.
For more background information, see the Painted Wood Assemblages section of 8 Bodies in 12 Years: Images and Sculptures 1994-2006, which covers all of my work in painted and carved wood from 1998-2002.
